Frank and Allie Woolfolk were married and lived in Paige, VA where they raised twelve (12) children: Leon (Lin), Hope, Annie Pearl, Lillian, Ruby, Alberta, Thomas (Tom), Frank (Mike), James, John, Dana and Lewis.
Frank was born on May 3, 1866 in Paige, VA. He was the son of a slave, Isabell, and a white man, Willie Woolfolk, who traces his ancestry to England. He had two brothers, Allen and Hallie, and three sisters, Emma, Fannie and Laura.
Frank, a tall, light-skinned, stern and hard working man, worked as a young man on the Moncure Gravatt Farm. After he bought land from Gravatt near the South River and built a home for his family, he continued to farm. He raised horses, cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, tobacco, corn, wheat and watermelons for the market. He also raised mules, ducks, guineas and pigeons (to send messages).
Frank and his brother, Hallie built the Woolfolk School - a one-room school house, where the Woolfolk children, grandchildren, and other nearby black children were educated. He died on November 13, 1954 at the age of 88.
Allie Rock Woolfolk was born in Balty, VA in 1884 to Mariah and John Rock, a full-blooded Indian. She had two brothers - James and Jack, and one sister - Cora. In addition to raising her 12 children, she also raised two grandchildren - Susie Woolfolk Jackson, now deceased, and Annie Woolfolk Edwards Anderson.
Allie was a short brown-skinned woman with long black hair. Family and friends described her as pleasant, kind-hearted, easy going, religious woman, who was devoted to her husband and children. She made beautiful quilts and drop rugs out of old cloths. Allie is best remembered for her excellent cooking and baking abilities. The family enjoyed home-grown and home-cooked hot meals every day.
Both Allie and Frank were members of St. John Baptist Church in Milford, VA. Allie died in May 1949 at the age of 65 due to heart failure.
